Terms and conditions
What the bench will do, and what it refuses.
A short agreement for a small service. The part that matters most is clause 05, which is about the things we will not promise you — read that one even if you read nothing else.
In force from 12 September 2026
Read this first
Two things are true of Sephia Room as these terms are published, and both limit what you can expect from it:
- No restoration model is connected, so tear repair and colouring do not run at all. The bench squares, clears and enlarges.
- No payment processing is connected, so no charge can be raised against you by this website, and no paid service can currently be bought.
This agreement
These terms are between you and the operator of Sephia Room. Using the bench means you accept them. Our registered company details are available on request at hello@sephiaroom.com.
They work alongside our Privacy notice, which explains what happens to a photograph you upload. If the two documents ever appear to conflict about the handling of your photograph, the Privacy notice governs.
You must be 18 or older to use the service.
What the service is
You photograph a printed photograph with your phone. You mark the four corners of the print. The bench then performs, in order: squaring and de-skewing, repair of damage, clearing of fog and grain, optional colouring, and enlargement. It returns a before/after comparison and a full-resolution file for you to download.
Each stage reports its own outcome honestly, including when it did nothing. A stage that cannot run is shown as not run — we do not substitute a different operation and present it as the one you asked for.
In plain words
It repairs a photograph you already have. It is not a photo editor, a face swapper, or a tool for making new images.
Your photograph, your rights in it
By uploading a photograph you confirm that:
- you own it, or you have permission from whoever does, to have it restored;
- you have the right to upload any image of an identifiable person that it contains — see clause 08 of the Privacy notice;
- uploading it does not break anyone else’s copyright or any other right.
Photographs taken by a professional studio may still be the photographer’s copyright, even when the print has been in your family for fifty years. In practice, for an old family print with no traceable photographer, restoring it for your own family’s use is the ordinary case and the one this service exists for. If you intend to publish or sell the result, check who owns it first.
What you keep, what we claim
You keep every right you had in your photograph. We claim nothing in it, and nothing in the restored file: it is yours, outright, with no watermark and no licence back to us.
We do not acquire a licence to display, publish, distribute or train on your photograph. There is no clause elsewhere in this agreement that quietly grants us one.
The website itself — its design, its code, and the wording of these documents — remains ours.
What we do not promise
This is the clause we would ask you to read twice, because the whole service is built around the limit it describes.
- We do not promise a particular result. How much can be recovered depends entirely on what survives in your print. Some photographs improve enormously. Some barely change.
- We do not promise that detail will be restored. Where information is genuinely gone from the print, the bench is built to leave that area soft and mark it, rather than invent something plausible. That is a deliberate design decision and not a defect. A soft result is a correct result.
- We do not guarantee likeness. Every setting is biased toward the source, and colouring is inferred rather than known. We cannot warrant that a restored face, or a colour, matches the person as they actually were. You should treat the restored file as a repaired photograph, never as evidence of fact.
- Keep your original. Do not throw away, cut, or alter the physical print because you have a digital file. The print is the record. We keep no copy of anything for you.
In plain words
If part of the photograph is destroyed, we will leave it blurry and tell you. We will not guess at a face. Being handed something blurry is the service working, not failing.
Free restorations
The first 3 restorations are free. The count is kept in your own browser, not on our server, so it resets if you clear your browser data and it does not follow you to another device.
We know this is easy to get around. We have chosen it over making you create an account. Please do not take that as an invitation.
Prices, and the fact you cannot pay yet
Our prices, when paid restorations open, are:
- ₦5,000 for one photograph, after the free 3;
- ₦20,000 for five photographs;
- ₦60,000 for a framed print delivered — see clause 08.
Payment processing is not connected. Nothing on this site can take money from you today. Buttons that mention a price record that you are interested; they do not create a contract to supply, and they do not charge you. If anything presenting itself as Sephia Room asks you to pay, it is not us.
Prices may change. A change will never apply to work already paid for.
The framed print
We intend to offer a restored photograph printed on archival paper, framed, and delivered within Nigeria, for ₦60,000.
This is a statement of intention, not an offer capable of acceptance. No print shop or framer has been engaged. No order can be placed, no delivery can be promised, and no date can be given. Registering interest creates no contract and no obligation on either side.
In plain words
We want to do framed prints. We have not arranged them yet. Telling us you want one is a way of helping us decide to, not an order.
Acceptable use
You must not use the bench to:
- process a photograph you have no right to process;
- produce an image intended to deceive anyone about what a person looks like, did, or was present at;
- create or process sexual imagery involving children, or any other unlawful material;
- harass, impersonate or defame anyone;
- attack, overload, scrape or attempt to break the service, or evade the free-restoration limit at scale.
We may refuse or stop service to anyone doing these things. Given the design of the service we usually cannot detect misuse, which is exactly why the responsibility in clause 03 sits with you.
Availability
The service is provided as it is, and as it happens to be available. We do not guarantee that it will be up, that it will work on your device or your connection, or that any particular stage of the bench will be running on a given day.
Uploads are limited to 25MB, and we accept JPEG, PNG and WEBP. HEIC — the format an iPhone saves by default — cannot be opened by web browsers and is not supported; the bench tells you how to convert it.
Because we keep no copy of your work, an interruption means starting that photograph again. There is nothing for us to recover on your behalf.
Liability
Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited under Nigerian law.
Subject to that, and to the maximum extent the law allows:
- we are not liable for any damage to, or loss of, your physical print — it never leaves your possession;
- we are not liable for a restored file being unsatisfactory, inaccurate, or soft where detail was unrecoverable;
- we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of data, profit or goodwill;
- our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you actually paid us for the restoration the claim concerns — which, while payment is not connected, is nil.
We say that last point plainly rather than burying it: a free service carries a correspondingly small remedy. If that is not an acceptable risk for an irreplaceable photograph, use a conservator instead, and keep your print either way.
Changes and ending
We may change these terms. The date at the top of the page changes when we do, and the version in force is the one published when you use the service.
You can stop using the bench at any time; there is no account to close and nothing of yours for us to delete. We may suspend or withdraw the service, in whole or for a particular person, at any time.
Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Nigerian courts.
If any clause is held unenforceable, the rest continues to apply.
